THOUSANDS of visitors are expected at this year’s free council fireworks display in Clydebank.

West Dunbartonshire Council is hosting the popular free display on Sunday, November 5, at Dalmuir Park at 7pm.

Along with the fireworks display there will also be children’s fun fair rides and stalls selling hot food.

The displays, delivered by Highlight Pyrotechnics, will have a net explosive content of more than 220kg and the event is expected to attract around 5,000 spectators.

The 20-minute show will feature a range of exciting pyrotechnics, including comets, mines, spinners, hummers, whistles, strobes and dragon’s eggs, and will light up the sky in an array of colours.

Councillor Jim Finn, chairman of West Dunbartonshire Leisure Trust, which is staging the event on behalf of the council, said: “Our fireworks displays are among our most popular events and are attended by thousands of visitors every year.

“Given the popularity of the events, I would encourage people to turn up early and enjoy the entertainment and great atmosphere prior to the start of the displays.

“I would also encourage visitors to ensure they adhere to parking restrictions and rules on sparklers and fireworks to ensure we have a fun, safe event for everyone to enjoy.”

Visitors are advised to arrive in plenty of time and, if possible, walk to the event or use public transport as many of the streets around the parks will have parking restrictions in place.

People are being urged not to bring their own fireworks or sparklers as these can present a safety issue within large crowds, and are also advised to leave pets at home.

Councillor Iain McLaren, convener of infrastructure, regeneration and economic development, added: “I would encourage people to come along to our official displays instead of having their own fireworks.

“Along with saving money, our events offer a safe, family-friendly environment where you will be treated to a breathtaking display.

“In addition to the main display we also have a great range of family entertainment before and after the main event.

The build-up starts at 7pm and the firework display start at 7.30pm prompt.

Another council display will take place the previous evening (November 4) at Dumbarton’s Levengrove Park at 7pm.
