A CLYDEBANK man who missed an appointment with social workers because he was caring for his dad has been given another chance by a sheriff.

Michael Higgins, 26, previously had sentencing deferred for a social work report to be obtained, but when he appeared in Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Friday the report still wasn’t ready.

Higgins, of Lappin Street, previously admitted possession of class B drug amphetamine, on April 26, and being concerned in the supply of cannabis to another or others on the same date.

Higgins’ solicitor, Lauren Kerr, told the court her client’s father had obtained a serious injury at work, and Higgins had attended hospital on the Sunday with him to find he had a broken leg.

She said: ““He was assisting with his father and forgot about the report. He advises he contacted the social work office at 4.50pm which he appreciates is late.”

There was nobody available for Higgins to speak to and he was advised to call back.

Sheriff Simon Pender deferred sentence until October 20 and told Higgins he must attend on October 2 as a condition of his bail.
