A CLYDEBANK woman more than four times the drink drive limit told police her pal must have spiked her drink.

Jennifer Campbell, of Mossgiel Drive, pleaded guilty to driving with 89mg of alcohol in 100ml of breath - well above the 22mg limit.

A court hearing was told that police went to Drumry roundabout at around 1.05am on August 17 and saw a vehicle had collided with the railings, causing extensive damage.

As officers approached, they were met by Campbell, 33, standing on the roadside. She openly stated she had been driving and she was asked to provide a specimen of breath.

The woman said she suffered from asthma but attempted to give a reading, which was unsuccessful. When she was taken to Clydebank police station, the reading came up as 89mg.

She told police: “I didn’t know I was drinking - I think my pal must have spiked with me. I’m not happy in the slightest.”

Defence solicitor Judith Reid said Campbell was a first offender and she had been drinking but then had a period without alcohol.

Sheriff John Hamilton disqualified Campbell for 15 months and fined her £150. If she undertakes a drink driver rehabilitation course, her disqualification can be reduced by three months.
