A CLYDEBANK dad has blasted a town supermarket for displaying a brand of wine named Fat B****** at children’s eye level.

Brian Smith was shocked to discover the bottles placed on the second bottom shelf within Iceland on Sylvania Way while he was shopping with his young son.

The 36-year-old took to social media to express his outrage at the “inappropriate” placement of the alcohol.

He told the Post: “I was in the shop with my wee boy. He noticed this bottle of wine and he was laughing.

“I’m not offended by it but surely it’s common sense to have it higher up.

“It’s a bit inappropriate, especially next to the tills.”

Brian contacted the supermarket giant but claims he was initially ignored until he put in a second complaint after visiting the shop again to discover the bottle had still not been moved to a higher shelf. He said: “I asked what was going to happen and just got a standard written message back. I haven’t heard anything else since.”

The firm told Brian they had passed his complaint on for further review – but despite regularly shopping in the Sylvania Way branch, the dad-of-one said he’s not seen any change yet.

Iceland’s reply added: “At the moment we have no plans to remove this product from sale within our stores, and I do offer my apologies for any disappointment this may cause. “We feel its [sic] worth mentioning that the Fat B****** brand, which is produced by Cranbrook Wines Limited, has been an established brand of wine for over 10 years and is sold in many establishments.”

However, the firm refused to confirm – to Brian or Post enquiries – if they intended to move the brand to a higher shelf.

An Iceland spokesman said: “Fat B****** wine is a high-quality product which we have stocked for some time, and which is popular with our customers. “Its name is humorous and certainly not intended to cause offence.”
