ROAD works are returning to a section of Dumbarton Road closed earlier this year when a hole opened up.

West Dunbartonshire Council has closed the junction of the main town A814 artery at Cable Depot Road to carry out emergency repairs.

Over the weekend, Dumbarton Road also will be reduced to one lane at the site to enable the work.

In July 2016, Scottish Water began three months of work to upgrade the sewer network at the junction with Cable Depot Road, restricting access to the side street.

But in June 2017, the Post alerted the council after the road began to dip by several inches. Within hours, a hole had opened up and a lane was closed off to traffic.

Scottish Water said a burst on a nine-inch water main was responsible for the June disruption.

A council spokesman said on Friday: "The junction of Cable Depot Road and Dumbarton Road in Clydebank has been closed to allow for emergency repair works.

"A dip has developed on the road surface where Scottish Water completed a repair earlier this year.

"A section of the A814 has been reduced to one lane over this weekend with a traffic management system in place. Drivers can access Cable Depot Road via Agamemnon Street, with diversions signposted."
