A MAN who barricaded himself inside a Dalmuir flat and refused to allow emergency workers inside has been warned he’ll be locked up if he continues to flout a court’s instructions.

George Brownlie’s actions meant emergency services workers and council staff had to force entry to the property in Dalmuir Court on February 22.

The 45-year-old, of Northinch Street in Whiteinch, pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner. He had his sentence deferred until Friday, July 14 to enable social workers to prepare a background report.

But at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week, Brownlie’s solicitor said his client hadn’t received a letter giving him a date and time to meet social workers.

The agent said: “He is under a great deal of stress.

“He would be very grateful if a further opportunity could be offered for him to attend.”

Sheriff William Gallacher said that Brownlie’s previous convictions meant he would be fully justified in sentencing him without a background report.

The sheriff told Brownlie: “I’m prepared to accept that we should still get this report.

“With considerable reluctance I will allow you to walk out the door today.

“But it you fail to turn up and we don’t have a report on the next occasion there will be no option but to send you to prison.”

Sentence was further deferred until August 11 and Brownlie’s bail was continued.
