WEST Dunbartonshire Council schools do not have the cladding used on Grenfell Tower, it has been confirmed.

The news comes as local authorities and all levels of government carry out urgent checks for materials found at the site of Britain’s worst fire disaster in decades.

A spokesman for West Dunbartonshire Council said: “None of West Dunbartonshire’s schools use the same cladding system that was in place at Grenfell Tower.

“All of the cladding used in West Dunbartonshire’s new schools is fully compliant with building standards and regulations. In addition, the new schools are all fitted with sprinkler systems.”

The BBC reported 14 Scottish council areas had a small number of low-rise schools with a type of cladding said to have been used on Grenfell Tower. Details had emerged during a meeting of a ministerial working group.

Scottish building regulations say the type of ACM cladding should not be used on high-rise domestic buildings, but can be used on others.

Thirty of 32 local authorities have confirmed ACM cladding is not on any privately owned high-rise structures. Edinburgh and Glasgow are still investigating because of the number of buildings.

The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital has insulation material similar to down south but it was properly installed to meet safety regulations.
