A DALMUIR woman who embezzled cash from a funeral home where she worked has written to her former employer to apologise, a court has been told.

Jenna Corr embezzled £1,822 from Co-operative Funeral Services at their premises in Sylvania Way South and at Maryhill Road in Glasgow between June 2014 and May 2015.

Corr was not present at a court hearing in May which was told the money had been repaid in full, and a sheriff ordered her to appear in person to be sentenced.

Dumbarton Sheriff Court had been told in March that the cash was found to be missing from the accounts of three grieving families, and that the 31-year-old had embezzled the money in an attempt to tackle the drug debt of someone she had become involved with.

The crime came to light when a customer’s account was found to have a shortfall of £400 without that customer’s knowledge, and further investigations into two other accounts discovered a similar pattern.

Corr first tried to deflect explanations on the three accounts, and was then dismissed from her post after failing to attend a disciplinary hearing.

That March hearing was told Corr was “extremely frightened” of the person she had become involved with.

Corr was given until May to save up a minimum of £300 towards repaying the debt, while social workers were also asked to prepare a background report on her circumstances.

When she appeared in court on Friday for sentencing, her solicitor, Judith Reid, said: “She has been of good behaviour and the amount has been repaid in full. A letter of apology in fairly strong terms has been sent to the former employer.

“The social work report makes it very clear that she has learned from her mistakes and has paid a very personal price in terms of the loss of contact with some family and friends.”

Sheriff Maxwell Hendry imposed a £200 fine.
