THE Knightswood Park Family Fun Day on Saturday has been cancelled by organisers because of a forecast of strong winds.

The event was to be held on Saturday but winds of about 20mph and stronger gusts would be above the acceptable limits for safe use of bouncy castles or other inflatables. Organisers said they were also concerned about the safe use of open fronted marquees.

A pipe band was to open the event and there would have been sports taster sessions, performances by schools, face painting, inflatables, birds of prey and a model boat club.

It is hoped the free event will be re-organised for later in the year.

A spokesman for the group said: "The gala committee have, over the course of the last week, been monitoring the weather conditions for Saturday because we have to be aware of the wind speeds due to the tents and marquees we would be using on the day.

"Unfortunately, there are predicted to be wind gusts up to 45mph, which, we have been advised, mean that it would be unsafe to erect the tents and marquees in those conditions.

"The cala committee have decided, therefore, in the interest of safety, that the fun day will not take place on June 24 as previously planned.

"A new date will be found for the fun day to take place and this will be circulated.

"We are sorry for any disappointment that this decision may cause, but the weather and advice was such that we could not allow the fun day to go ahead."
