CUESTA LOEB – GRASS IT GROWS

Alloa and Hillfoots Advertiser:

NY native Christina Cuesta Loeb cites the likes of Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, Fiona Apple and early Sheryl Crow as influences of her dreamy pop.

Track Grass It Grows seduces with its swelling guitar and smoky melody.

Christina said: “The song actually came about as a reworking on another song I had called Festival 2017. The original was very dreamy and quirky and I loved it. I loved working on the new version because it evolved from the other so naturally. It's just so freeing and says exactly the motto I want to live by.

“We are often told where to go, what to do, and how to think. But these rules are manmade, arbitrary and often times unnecessary. No one tells grass how to grow. It just does, free of any force or pressure.”

Now based in LA, the singer-songwriter plans to drop a new EP in the summer and hit the road with her music in the autumn.

CARFACE – CRUSH

Alloa and Hillfoots Advertiser:

Colorado band Carface offers up a dollop of electrifying beats with track Crush. Buckle up as the swirling synth takes you on the ride of your life.

The band said: “We wrote Crush about the feeling you get to mess things up, or steal things, or just be deviant for the sake of it. For the sake of expressing free will.

“The story is sort of a double-entendre. The metaphor of her heart being as a ‘red Ferrari’ is giving us the implication that she is madly in love with someone and wants desperately for this envisioned man to spirit her away and make her most wild fantasies come true.

“But this isn’t in fact the central theme of the song, you have to dig a little deeper for that. The track and all the words are far more literal than an extension of her feelings of a man being akin to a red Ferrari.

“On the contrary, her heart is actually a red Ferrari or she adores an actual car rather than the man. So in the upcoming music video we will actually be showing this play on words and showing her ripping off this new lover’s red Ferrari.

“What she was addicted to was the rush and the thrill of doing the unexpected. And she feels free again. So the message is actually her following her heart, that beats like a red Ferrari – not following her lover around enthralled but instead a Crush, being in love with ones ability to take yourself wherever your heart leads you.”

LITTLE MONARCH – FOREVER

Alloa and Hillfoots Advertiser:

LA-based Little Monarch are rockingly romantic on track Forever.

The band’s Casey Kalmenson said: “The song came about one summer day last year when we were on my patio jamming. We fell in love with the lick Nick had come up with and started vibing on where it could take us story wise.

“It felt like we could listen to the guitar part forever honestly, and that’s what we ended up writing about – things that feel like forever; love, music, friends, long nights etc.

“The verses tell a story of love rekindled over time and how instantly feelings can come back when a ‘forever’ person for you enters your life again.”

The band is currently working on a follow-up EP to their self-titled debut. A video for single No Matter What is also in the works.

Casey added: “It’s been a really fun ride so far seeing where our sound can take us and we are all stoked for this next batch of music.”

The song is darkly mesmerising as Wilson wills you to drift along with her sultry vocals and guitar.

Describing the inspiration behind the track, the Scottish singer-songwriter said: “The song is about a few different things, but mostly about picking yourself back up after you’ve been knocked down. It’s a song to make you feel stronger when you’re feeling weak.”

A LITTLE NOTHING – RIGHT PLACE RIGHT TIME

Alloa and Hillfoots Advertiser:

A Little Nothing’s sparkling indie-pop comes all the way from Jena in Germany.

Song Right Place Right Time bounces along brightly with its charming melody.

Explaining the inspiration behind the track, frontman Mike said: “I was actually working on the upcoming EP No/On Fire, which has a rather less sunny/happy tone to it, and suddenly the weather where I live went from rainy and cold to sunny.

“Basically it was the first real spring day where you could stay outside for more than half an hour without wanting to get back to your couch.

“This really inspired me to make a lush and friendly song that fit the feeling I felt at this moment. I was looking forward to the summer, hanging around outside, drinking beer etc.”

OAK HOUSE – DAMP EYES

Alloa and Hillfoots Advertiser:

Oak House’s cinematic grunge-wave was born in Athens, Georgia, during the winter of 2014.

Song Damp Eyes starts off with a gentle melody before building into a raw storm of thrash guitar.

Frontman and guitarist Gresham Cash said of the track: “Damp Eyes is a tale of discontent, uncertainty and panophobia. It also explores how our own vanity and self-concern can lead us to ignorance and dysfunction in our relationships.

“The lyrics raise questions of these concepts through abstract imagery and misleading first hand experiences. Ultimately, a climax is reached where the narrator is beckoning: I was faithful; let me in. It reaches a head and falls off.

“Musically the song is tied by a droning theme – droning tones contributing to a general tension throughout the album.”

The trio – Gresham along with drummer Wes Gregory and bassist Connor Sabula – released album Hot or Mood in April and plan to tour the east coast of the US this autumn.
