HOUSING bosses have asked for patience as the demolition of high flats in Drumchapel has been spreading layers of dust over homes and vehicles.

The gradual shrinking of 15 Linkwood Crescent has been ongoing since before Christmas but as it nears completion, recent high winds have coated properties nearby.

Resident Michael Mullen complained: “There was meant to be a car wash for all local residents but that has not been published anywhere and we were told that the water cannon that keeps the dust down is broken.

“You can’t sit in your garden without a cloud of dust.”

And neighbour Claire McGibbon added: “Myself and our neighbours are at our wit’s end. One day they have the water sprays on and then for the next two or three, sometimes more, days after that there’s no water and we have to deal with this dust.

“Cars are having to be washed daily, we can’t open windows, hang washing out to dry, or sit in our gardens.”

Glasgow Housing Association said demolition should be complete by the end of May and the site cleared in July.

David Fletcher, GHA’s director of regeneration, said: “We’d like to thank residents around Linkwood Crescent for their patience while we transform the area.

“We’re doing everything we can to keep any disruption to a minimum. Unfortunately, all demolitions involve some dust emissions, but we have measures in place, including water hoses, to dampen the dust and stop it from spreading.

“Our contractors are also cleaning residents’ cars, windows and pathways regularly.”
