WEST Dunbartonshire's population continues to shrink even as Scotland has risen overall to a record 5.4 million people.
The local authority has an estimated 89,860 people as of June 30, 2016, up 0.30 per cent and down largely to migration.
But compared mid-2006, the number of residents is down 1.71 per cent. By contrast, Edinburgh is up 12 per cent and East Lothian and Midlothian both up 11 per cent.
Glasgow has seen an increase of 8 per cent in a decade, according to the National Records of Scotland figures.
West Dunbartonshire also had the fewest men - 91 per 100 females - along with East Renfrewshire, North Ayrshire and South Ayrshire.
Glasgow has the most people per square kilometre at 3,521.
Amongst other findings is that the over-75 population has seen the largest rise at 31 per cent. A full 18 per cent of Scots are now aged over 65.
