A MAN who touched a 15-year-old girl on her chest over her clothing and spat on her has been put on the sex offenders register for three years.

John Gray, of Dumbarton Road, previously pleaded guilty to the assault of the girl on May 29 last year.

He also admitted acting in an intimidating manner and uttering sexual comments towards another 15-year-old at Dalmuir Square.

The 38-year-old also resisted arrest and repeatedly struggled with three police officers, tensing his body in an attempted to prevent hand cuffs being applied.

Gray also repeatedly shouted, swore and acted in an aggressive manner on a street in Dalmuir.

Sheriff Simon Pender said: “These are serious charges for which a custodial sentence must be considered.”

But despite Gray’s previous record and “lack of insight and lack of remorse”, Sheriff Pender said jail “may not address those concerns”.

Gray was put on a community payback order with supervision for three years.

He will also carry out 300 hours of unpaid work in the community in the next 12 months, the maximum sentence.

He will be tagged and restricted to his home in Dumbarton Road between 7pm and 7am for the next six months.

And Gray must pay a £200 fine, but if he misses any one instalment, he will automatically go to jail.

Because of the “significant sexual element” of the charges, he will be on the sex offenders register for three years.
