A FAIFLEY woman who called a neighbour’s daughter a “ginger nut” before punching the mum has been ordered to carry out unpaid work in the community.

Emma Calvert, of Langfaulds Crescent, saw another woman speaking to her two children and “intervened”, heard Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week.

Around 4.45pm in a parking area in Limekilns Street, Faifley, Calvert kicked off and started shouting comments at the woman including “you’re getting done in” and “ginger nut”.

Fiscal depute Aga Mathieson said the comment was believed to be a reference to the woman’s daughter’s red hair.

She said: “She grabbed out at her face and punched her to the face. The woman pulled her hair to prevent her landing any more punches. The accused pushed the witness and she landed over a small wall.”

Calvert’s defence solicitor, Gail Campbell, said the parties had reconciled.

She said: “What started quite legitimately was concern for the children. If she had a legitimate concern, she should have simmered down.

“She is deeply apologetic. She requires to be punished and she acknowledges that.”

Calvert previously pleaded guilty to assault for punching the woman on December 29, 2015, pushing her against a wall and kicking her on the body to her injury. She also admitted shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence.

Sheriff Maxwell Hendry put Calvert on a community payback order with supervision for one year and 100 hours of unpaid work in the community within six months.

He told her: “Because of your loss of self control, you now have a criminal record.”
