A MAN was so enraged by comments from his teenage son he turned up at his door to hurl abuse – even though he was banned from entering the street.

John Carrick, of Kinfauns Drive, Drumchapel, had a two-year non-harassment order put in place in February 2016 but a year later he was banging on the door of the property in Shelley Drive, Clydebank.

The 56-year-old previously pleaded guilty to breaching the order and to shouting, swearing, acting aggressively, uttering threats of violence and banging on a door on March 5 this year.

Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard how, at around 12.30pm on that day, the 17-year-old and his mother were in their home when the teenager picked up the phone to a call from Carrick.

Fiscal depute Aga Mathieson told the court last week: “She heard [her son] speaking to him [Carrick] on the phone and arguing. He said he didn’t wish to speak to him and hung up. About 20 minutes later, she heard banging on the door. The son looked out the window to the front door and heard him [Carrick] shouting.”

Carrick shouted comments such as “come down to the door you wee sh*** bag, your mum is a w****” and “get out here so I can kick your a***”. This continued for about 10 minutes and then police were called.

Defence solicitor Roddy Boag said the reason Carrick went to the house was because of what his son said to him on the phone.

The pair go fishing fortnightly, he said, and that continued throughout the non-harassment order protecting the mother. But the son mentioned associating with someone Carrick didn’t approve of and the argument was a “typical parental argument with advice being given but not sought”.

Carrick was said to have some communications issues which left him with an inability to grasp difficulties his behaviour has caused. He had been in custody since March 6.

Sheriff Simon Pender told Carrick: “Whatever the reasons for going to the house, only a custodial sentence is appropriate.”

Carrick was jailed for a total of six months, back dated to March 6 and a new three-year non-harassment order created preventing him entering Shelley Drive.
