WITNESSES have described rushing to the aid of a "dazed and bleeding" schoolboy after a van crashed into a busy bus stop on Kilbowie Road at rush hour this morning.

The 15-year-old was rushed by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where his condition has been described as serious. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A Hiflow van also hit two other people - a man, aged 43, who is said to be suffering from serious injuries, and a 48-year-old woman - at 7.44am at the bus stop shortly before the Drumry Road junction, opposite Crown Avenue.

Clydebank Post:

The woman was found in front of the vehicle at the corner of Drumry Road, while the man was said to have ended up behind the wall that stands behind the bus stop.

The teen was still sitting in the bus stop when local shop workers rushed to his aid.

All four, including the 52-year-old male van driver, remain in hospital.

One shopkeeper, who asked not to be identified, stayed with the youngster until the ambulance arrived.

He said: "He was still sitting in the bus stop, they were all conscious, he was bleeding from the face.

"I went over to see if they were alright, came back in (and) phoned the ambulance - they where here within minutes.

"The woman was just around the corner, at Drumry Road."

He added: "It was just quite scary especially with the young boy.

"He was dazed, probably confused - you would be if you had just been run over.

Clydebank Post:

"There's not a whole lot you can do, you can't touch them or move them."

The van has now been removed from the site and the road remains closed as officers continue their investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

Surrounding roads are also closed and police are on hand to direct traffic.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Police and ambulance attended and four people, including the driver of the van involved, have been injured and taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.

"The road is currently closed and officers are carrying out enquiries at the scene."

A spokesman for Scottish Fire and Rescue added: "At 7.49am on Friday, April 28, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to a report of a van leaving the road and colliding with a bus stop on Kilbowie Road, Clydebank.

“Two appliances were immediately mobilised. Firefighters ensured the area was made safe before leaving the scene.”

Businesses on the typically busy street are beginning to return to normal.

Clydebank Post:

John Dunsmore, the owner of Jon and Co hairdresser directly behind the bus stop, said: "I got a call roughly about 8am this morning to say there had been an incident outside the shop.

"As far as we were aware, there were no casualties. We got her about 8.15am - there was fire engines, ambulances and police.

"It's a really bad junction from Drumry Road out to Kilbowie Road.

"It just looked like total carnage from here up to the top of street - wall-to-wall police vans.

"One of the posts from the bus stop went through the windscreen."

Bankies were praised by officers for their quick thinking and determination to help those injured, however, police have appealed for information to help determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101.
