A 15-year-old boy is in serious condition after a van crashed into a bus stop in Clydebank.

Emergency services rushed to Kilbowie Road at its junction with Drumry Road and across from Crown Avenue just before 7.45am when the white Renault van hit the stop, injuring three pedestrians.

The 52-year-old driver of the van, a 42-year-old male pedestrian and a woman, aged 48, were all taken to hospital.

The 43-year-old man is also in serious condition with injuries to the body and pelvis, said police.

However, none of the injuries are believed to be life threatening. The van has now been removed.

Members of the public are understood to have given assistance to the injured immediately after the crash and were commended by police for their actions.

Officers are now appealing for witnesses as they continue their investigation into the cause of the crash.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Police and ambulance attended and four people, including the driver of the van involved, have been injured and taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow.

"The road is currently closed and officers are carrying out enquiries at the scene."

One eyewitness told the Post: "I heard there was three people at the bus stop, and a driver - one was a young boy.

"(There were) four ambulances and they were all taken away. It doesn't bear thinking about."

John Dunsmore, the owner of Jon and Co hairdresser directly behind the bus stop, said: "I got a call roughly about 8am this morning to say there had been an incident outside the shop.

"As far as we were aware, there were no casualties. We got her about 8.15 - there was fire engines, ambulances and police.

"It's a really bad junction from Drumry Road out to Kilbowie Road.

"It just looked like total carnage from here up to the top of street - wall-to-wall police vans.

"One of the posts from the bus stop went through the windscreen."
