TALENTED pupils at two primary schools cracked open a few Easter eggs to celebrate dreaming up the centrepiece of Faifley’s fresh new image.

Grace O’Driscoll, from Edinbarnet Primary School, and Rebecca McArthur and Gabrsia Rea, from nearby St Joseph’s Primary School, won a competition to design signs with the theme “Fresh-Faced Faifley”.

Dozens of locals and dignitaries turned out for the unveiling of the winning designs – which will stand proudly next to the Father Son and Mother Daughter statues.

The contest was organised by Faifley Community Council, who secured £1,900 in community funding to pay for the project.

Claire Gallagher, chairwoman of Faifley Community Council, told the Post: “We got in touch with both school, Edinbarnet and St. Josephs to come up with designs for both signs and each school had a winner.

“The theme was fresh faced Faifley, and both designs showed how great the community here in Faifley is and how working together as a community make it a better place to live.”

Once the pupils had the chance to see their eye-catching designs, they joined more than 100 kids at Skypoint for an egg-citing Easter egg hunt and hopped on to the bouncy castle for a fun-filled Saturday afternoon.

Claire added: “I would like to thank Tricia Lorimer for her hard work as well as all of Faifley Community Councillors but most of all the residents of Faifley for a fantastic day.”

Councillor Lawrence O’Neill, who attended alongside Provost Douglas McAllister, added: “I’m delighted to have been asked to attend and glad the money from the local Your Community fund for Faifley is being very well utilised by and on behalf of the community by the community council.

“Very well done to the girls and their winning images that will be there for posterity. Special thanks to Faifley Housing Association and West Dunbartonshire Council for permission to site the very eye-catching signs at both ends of Faifley on their land.”
