A CLYDEBANK advert offering a free room in exchange for “small favours” has been condemned along with similar postings across the country.

The ad, posted a month ago on free site Craigslist and now removed after being flagged for removal, said the 37-year-old “sub male” would accept “naughty flashes of your body” in exchange for free rent and bills.

Research by our sister paper, The Herald, found none of the ads were active and there was nothing illegal about the offers. There is no evidence any women took up the offers in the ad in Clydebank or elsewhere in the UK.

But some fear vulnerable women could be exploited.

The ad stated: “I’m a 37 year old sub male in the Clydebank area with a free room on offer, short term or on a month to month basis.

“Free rent in exchange for small favours and no bills or housework for you to do, I clean up any mess that you make and replace any items which you may need.

“Favours I would appreciate include things such as giving naughty flashes of your body, always teasing me, leaving your shavings whenever you shave your legs etc.”

Clydebank Women’s Aid said they were “appalled but not shocked”.

In a statement, the group said: “Clydebank Women’s Aid are appalled, but not shocked, at this increase in the acceptability of blatant misogyny, where women are seen as disposable commodities.

“The exploitation of vulnerable women is never acceptable either on an individual or societal level. If any woman should find herself in this position contact Clydebank Women’s Aid on 0141 952 8118 or West Dunbartonshire Council homeless section on 01389 737000.”

Liz Ely, co-director of Zero Tolerance Scotland, said men would continue to abuse their position in this way until the housing crisis was solved.

“To prevent men’s violence against women, we also need secure and affordable housing.”

Police Scotland said residents should take care replying to adverts of this nature. A spokeswoman said: “If a person feels they are being exploited or coerced, they should contact the police.”
