WELCOME to Clydebank’s first annual Hunger Games!

Dozens of young people spent their Easter break training for the games as Y Sort It pulled together its latest film production, this time on the popular film and novel series.

Reducing four feature-length films to just eight minutes might not be the easiest task, but with the help of Y Sort It’s award-winning #FreshCreations youth arts hub and film and design company 14c, they happily volunteered for these challenges.

Holly McMillan, a 13-year-old St Peter the Apostle High pupil, got the role of a lifetime in playing Katniss Everdeen.

She said: “It’s a great experience. Jennifer Lawrence is the person that I look up to that’s a celebrity. I’m just trying to re-enact her in the whole movie.”

Michael Healy, also 13 from St Peter’s, took part in previous filming projects Ghostbusters, Back Tae The Future and Teenage Mutant Turtles remakes and this time was filming behind the scenes.

He said: “There’s a lot more stuff than last time with the action. This one is a lot better. I get to see all the different parts coming together.”

We found Thomas Lawrence, 16 from Clydebank High, being turned into the character Caesar Flickerman, played by Stanley Tucci in the films, with the help of Drew MacPherson, 13, from St Peter’s, doing the make-up.

And Caitlynn Bonner, 10, who goes to St Mary’s Primary, was being turned in Claudius Templesmith, played by Toby Jones.

She summarised her role as: “I’m more of the positive one even though everyone is going to die.”

But the baddie of the film is last year’s goodie. Christopher McFadden, 11, from Kilbowie Primary, played Marty McFly in last year’s Back Tae The Future.

But in 2017, he was being aged dramatically by 10-year-old Eva Tait to become President Snow.

He said: “You have so much make-up on top of you people might not know who you are. It’s a very different role from last year, from boy to an old man.”

The film will get its public showing at a later date.
