THE SNP has announced its Clydebank candidates for the May council elections.

The party will have seven members on the preferential ballots for the Kilpatrick, Clydebank Central and Clydebank Waterfront wards compared to six for Labour.

Incumbent councillors Jim Finn, Jim Brown, William Hendrie and Marie McNair are all standing again.

In Kilpatrick, Cllr Finn will be joined by homeless and addictions manager Claire Gallagher, who is also chairwoman of Faifley Community Council.

In Clydebank Central, Cllr Brown will be joined by Diane Docherty, a North Kilbowie and Central community councillor.

And in Clydebank Waterfront, former West Dunbartonshire employee and a staff member for MSP Gil Paterson, Frank McNiff, will stand with Cllrs Hendrie and McNair.

Cllr Hendrie, SNP deputy group leader, said: “We have a strong group of candidates with varied backgrounds and skills.

“Constituents feel the current council lacks consultation and doesn’t put their needs first.

“The SNP feel it’s time for a council that is transparent and constituent-focused.”

Kilpatrick Ward also sees Lawrence O’Neill and Douglas McAllister for Labour. Alan Sorrell and John Mooney are standing for Labour in Clydebank Central along with Denis Agnew as an independent and Dean Allardice for the Community Party.

In Clydebank Waterfront, Gail Casey and Daniel Lennie will be on the ticket for Labour. Other candidates have yet to declare.

In Garscadden/Scotstounhill, candidates include former MSP Bill Butler and student Eva Murray for Labour, with Glasgow Girl Roza Salih and Michael Cullen for the SNP and Gill Macdonald for the Greens.

Drumchapel/Anniesland will see former MSP Anne McTaggart for Labour along with Paul Carey, Louise McGuigan for the Greens, and Malcolm Balfour and Elspeth Kerr for SNP.

The final deadline for candidates in local elections is not until April when a full list will be available.
