IT’S BIGGER, it’s better and with Scotland’s first interactive flume ride, it’s just got a whole lot wetter.

Finishing touches were being made this week to the brand new £23.8 million Clydebank Leisure Centre.

Due to open on Friday, March 31, the centre includes three swimming pools, a multi-purpose sports hall, a fitness suite and group exercise studio.

The entire first floor of the centre is made up of a unique interactive activity zone and fitness area for children with state-of-the-art facilities for young people to encourage active lifestyles.

It features the very latest technology, including wall and floor projectors, to create two large activity areas and two large party rooms.

But the star attraction is the hi-tech Aqua Smash Experience flume which includes an interactive game which allows swimmers to gain points as they go round and even have their photo taken at the end.

Inhouse tablets means the pictures can be immediately uploaded to social media sites or email address.

Tourism experts predict the cutting-edge attraction could see an extra half a million visitors each year.

Ronnie Dinnie, of West Dunbartonshire Council, said: “We are very proud of what we have achieved with this wonderful new facility. It truly is a state-of-the-art leisure centre that offers so much to the people of Clydebank and West Dunbartonshire.

“The equipment available in the gym and the activity areas is the best available and I’m confident visitors to Clydebank Leisure Centre will very quickly be planning a return visit.

“The health of our residents is of course a priority for the council and the £23.8m investment in this centre shows just how important that is to us. The addition of things like the interactive flume and high-tech activity and party rooms shows how keen we are to get people active from a young age.”

The leisure centre is located just five minutes from the now closed Play Drome and sits alongside West College Scotland and the council’s Aurora House offices.

It includes a number of extra facilities including a 25m, six-lane swimming pool, leisure pool with waves and interactive i-slide, a health suite with sauna and steam room and a spinning studio.

In addition, there is a wetside communal changing facility, birthday party rooms, conference facilities as well as a cafe and vending machines.
