A CLYDEBANK school has been given a glowing report card into their teaching work.

Goldenhill Primary in Hardgate was praised for the “strong leadership” of the head teacher, depute head teacher and principal teacher as well as the work of all staff.

Education Scotland said all the efforts at the school were producing children “who are confident, polite, respectful and keen to learn”.

They said there would be no further visits to do with the inspection because of the improvement being made at Goldenhill.

Head teacher Roselyn McGregor, said: “The entire team at Goldenhill Primary School is really pleased with this report which recognises the school’s many strengths including our enthusiastic, well-behaved and respectful pupils. We work hard to create an environment where our pupils are supported to achieve their very best and it’s great to see this acknowledged.

“We are all committed to continuing to build on the positives highlighted and further developing our curriculum to challenge our pupils in partnership with parents, carers and educational services.”

The inspection report highlighted Goldenhill’s “active learning” which engaged and empowered children and motivated them to learn.

It also noted: “The work of all teaching staff who are participating in valuable collaborative research to impact on learning and teaching and strengthen school leadership at all levels.”

But Education Scotland also set tasks for the school and West Dunbartonshire Council, particularly to raise attainment in numeracy and literacy for all children.

They continued: “Staff should continue to develop their links with parents and partners in the wider community to enhance outcomes further for all children. The school should ensure there is a clearer focus on using a range of data to evaluate the impact of their work to ensure continuous improvement.”

Education Scotland concluded: “We are confident the school has the capacity to continue to improve and so we will make no more visits in connection with this inspection. West Dunbartonshire Council will inform parents/carers about the school’s progress as part of its arrangements for reporting on the quality of its schools.”

A council spokeswoman for the council said: “This positive report reflects the hard work and dedication of staff and pupils at Goldenhill Primary and their determination to continuously improve. The school is firmly focused on developing further still and using the Curriculum for Excellence to ensure every child reaches their potential.”
