A MAN has pleaded guilty to kicking his way into a Dalmuir high-rise flat and cutting the resident inside with a knife – while looking for someone else.

Joshua McCreadie, 26, admitted barging into the property in Burnside Court and assaulting the 37-year-old man on the face with a knife to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement. He was on bail at the time of the offence on November 6 last year.

Depute fiscal Sarah Healing said the victim was at home with a friend on the evening of November 5.

Around 3am, he heard his front door being kicked open and saw McCreadie in his hallway. Neither he nor his friend knew who McCreadie was.

He was looking for a Suzie, Shelly or Susan – but neither the victim nor witness knew who that was either. McCreadie repeatedly shouted for the woman before asking where she was.

Ms Healing said: “The complainer stated that he didn’t know anyone by that name and didn’t know what the accused was talking about to which the accused replied: ‘She better not be here. If she is, I will kill you’.

“The accused had in his hand an open Swiss Army-style knife which he was waving about. He then backed the complainer into the corner of the hallway before using the knife to slash the complainer on the left cheek.

“The accused then left leaving the complainer bleeding from a laceration to the left side of his face.

“An ambulance was called and the ambulance service alerted the police which resulted in both services arriving at the property a short time later.

“The complainer was removed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment while police officers remained, at the locus while trying to gather evidence.

“During the course of enquiries, they received information to suggest that the accused was responsible and, as a result, he was detained on November 10.

“He was removed to Clydebank police office, interviewed and made no comment.

“The complainer was treated at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for a laceration of approximately three inches in length to his left cheek.

“The laceration was closed with nine stitches.

“The complainer has been left, as a result of the injury, with a visible scar on his left cheek.”

Sheriff Simon Pender acknowledged that McCreadie, listed in court papers as a prisoner at Low Moss, had an almost identical conviction on his record.

He called for background reports with a view to imposing an extended sentence or a supervised release order.

Sentencing has been deferred until March 3.
