A VICIOUS thug who left a man needing plastic surgery after ripping off a chunk of his eyebrow with his teeth has been branded a “wild animal”.

Kevin Renahan attacked a delivery driver from a Chinese takeaway when he was challenged for pocketing three miniature bottles of booze.

He previously broke into a car in the Vale of Leven Hospital car park just to steal a pair of 3D glasses, sunglasses, toys and £1.80.

Renahan, also known as Wilson, appeared at Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week to enter a guilty plea to punching and biting a man at the Chimes Chinese Restaurant on October 29 last year in Main Street, Jamestown.

Depute fiscal Sarah Healing told the court how Renahan, had been drinking with others earlier in the afternoon at a friend’s home before going to a pub in Main Street, Alexandria.

Renahan was becoming “rowdy” and a friend persuaded him to leave and they went to Chimes around 10pm.

Ms Healing said: “A delivery driver at the restaurant observed Renahan being loud and he removed three miniature bottles of spirits from the display area of the bar.

“He approached the accused and asked him to return the bottles, which caused Renahan to become aggressive towards the driver.”

The driver backed away but Renahan went towards him and punched him on the head, causing the man, 44, to fall backwards to the ground. He got back to his feet as Renahan approached him again, this time facing down.

“This forced the driver to jump on to a chair to get out of the way,” continued Ms Healing. “Renahan bit him above the left eye in the region of the eyebrows.

“He shouted, ‘do you know who I am?’ He bit a large chunk out of the complainer’s left eyebrow. He again fell to the floor and the accused was removed. Others administered first aid.”

The driver was taken to hospital and later transferred to Glasgow Royal Infirmary’s plastic surgery department. The wound was too large to be stitched and the man was given a tetanus inoculation.

One third of the eyebrow was gone and even after 12 stitches, the wound would not close.

Ms Healing said: “The complainer will require further plastic surgery. Even when reconstructive surgery is completed, there may be significant disfigurement to the complainer’s face.”

Sheriff William Gallacher was shown photos of the injury and exclaimed that he had no idea what Renahan meant by: “Do you know who I am”, other than being a “beast”.

He blasted: “The nature of the offence indicates he thinks he is a wild animal.

“The injuries I see are hideous – the kind of injuries that were imposed by a wild animal.

“I don’t know if I can deal with this at all. I may require to send this to the High Court.”

The maximum jail sentence that can be imposed for a solemn matter at the court is five years, and it would have to get a discount because Renahan pleaded guilty.

Sheriff Gallacher noted Renahan had previous convictions in front of a jury.

Previously we reported how, on August 28, 2014, Renahan, then of Glasgow Road, Clydebank, broke into a car in the Vale of Leven Hospital car park after stealing about £22 worth of goods.

He was intoxicated at the time and was fined £100.

Inspector John Mullen, said: “We are aware of the ongoing proceedings and await the decision of the court.

“There is no place in our communities for mindless acts of brutality.

“Police Scotland will actively pursue those people who are intent in causing harm and engaging in acts of violence, in order to keep our communities safe.”
