A WHITECROOK drug user has been ordered to carry out unpaid work in the community for possession of cannabis and cocaine.

Police executed a search warrant in a Whitecrook Street property on October 2, 2015, and found four quantities of herbal cannabis totalling 152.99g, worth an estimated £1,120.

There was also 8.28g of cocaine with a value of about £320.

Thomas Allan, 43, admitted possession to police after his arrest.

His defence solicitor told Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week that Allan had been struck with a bottle at the age of 24, causing two blood clots and making him unable to work ever since.

He then mixed with the “wrong peer group” and started taking cocaine when he was aged about 30 and then cannabis for pain relief.

Though Allan has stopped using cannabis, he is still on cocaine.

The solicitor said: “He needs to engage in addiction services. He is not strong enough to take responsibility. He requires some level of support in order to abstain from drug use.”

Sheriff Simon Pender noted Allan had no previous convictions for drug offences but that the quantities were serious.

He put Allan on a community payback order with supervision for 18 months and a requirement to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work within six months.
