SCHOOLS are preparing for new requirements for Gaelic language learning in West Dunbartonshire come 2017.
The Education (Scotland) Act 2016 requires more promotion and support for Gaelic education and allows all parents to request Gaelic medium education for their children.
There are currently 18 pupils living in the area getting Gaelic medium education at Glasgow Gaelic School, with Edinbarnet Primary and Gavinburn Primary having the language as part of their strategy.
Three teachers have been trained on Gaelic in primary schools and a seconded Gaelic development officer will work to promote the language and get a sense of the level of interest across the local authority.
Any costs associated with the Gaelic activities will be covered by the award of £17,500 from Bòrd na Gàidhlig, says the report to the education services committee next week.
