CLYDEBANK’S college has been recognised for its ability to allow students to develop essential skills for landing a job at a glitzy awards bash.

West College Scotland’s Queen’s Quay campus beat out all of Scotland’s 26 colleges to take home the Essential Skills Award, which was presented to the college’s head of essential skills, Grant Taylor, at a ceremony in Glasgow.

Speaking of the accolade, Grant said: “We are extremely delighted to be recognised for all our hard work and innovation with regards to the development of students’ essential transferable skills.

“This award is for all the Essential Skills team and also the wider college staff who engage and encourage the students to identify, reflect and enhance their personal skills and attributes allowing them to become a more confident successful individual.”

The college’s Greenock campus also won big with pupil Amanda Allan, who is studying science and works as a lab technician in the college, winning the Student Citizenship Award.

College principal, Audrey Cumberford, added: “Everyone at the college is delighted to win these very important awards.“We are very proud of all our staff and students involved. These awards show that we are a college at the very top of its game.”
