POLICE are warning the public to be on the alert over an increased spate of counterfeit money in north-west Glasgow.

There have been at least seven or eight incidents in the past week across the area, all deliberate attempts to buy goods with the fake notes.

In one incident, on November 17 and reported later, a security guard at the Tesco Metro in Anniesland Road confronted a man suspected of trying to use counterfeit cash.

The man began struggling with the guard and struck him on the face, but he was uninjured.

The suspect is described as heavy build, 5’8”, bald, wearing a dark grey hoody and dark trousers. He is believed to be a local male.

CCTV is being checked but any witnesses are asked to contact police in Drumchapel on 101 or Crimestoppers. Anyone with information on the fake notes is also asked to contact officers.
