A STUDENT at Clydebank's college has died after taking ill at the campus yesterday.

An ambulance responded to calls of a male having collapsed in a classroom at 9am.

Sources confirmed the young man died later Thursday morning.

A West College Scotland spokesman said: "Shortly after 9am yesterday morning, a 20-year-old male graphic design student collapsed in class on the Clydebank campus of West College Scotland.

"First aid assistance was provided and the ambulance service was called.

"It was with great sadness that we learned later that the student died at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

"His mother has contacted the college to offer her thanks for the tremendous efforts made by staff during this incident.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time."

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: "We did attend an incident at West College Scotland's Clydebank campus at around about 9am this morning.

"We sent two paramedics, a response unit and a crew.

"We transported a patient to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

"The patient was in his 20s."

The death is not being treated as suspicious.
