A LOVESTRUCK couple have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary by returning to the place where their love story began, Clydebank.

George and Ena Hudson moved to Fife around 40 years ago but the Dalmuir bred duo came home to enjoy their special day with family and friends.

The pair celebrated with a family party in the Golden Jubilee Hotel with around 40 guests to mark the the 50th anniversary of their September 2, 1966 wedding.

Niece Debbie Hughes told the Post both the couple and family alike enjoyed their day in the unusual September sunshine celebrating the Hudsons, who often come back to the town to visit.

She said: "They enjoyed themselves – we all did.

"Rather than gifts, they asked everyone to make a donation to the Rainbow Trust, which is a charity for people suffering with cerebral palsy.

"There wasn't any particular reason, my uncle is part of the rotary and they're both quite charitable so they just wanted to do something to help others."

And help they did, raising an incredible £515 for the charity in honour of their special day.

George first met his future bride when they both worked in well-known former John Brown's drawing office back in the 1960s.

He was looking for a date to accompany him to a wedding and asked Ena if she would join him, the rest, as they say, is history.

Now, half a century later, the pair are proud parents to sons Alistair and Blair and grandparents to six little ones – Cameron, Lily, Grace, Lewis, Isaac and Esme.

After a short engagement, they married in the Morrison Memorial Church at the entrance to John Brown's middle gate before moving on to the former Cameron House.

The newlyweds set up home in Dalmuir's Pattison Street and it kept it local with their work in numerous Clydeside firms.

Like many others, the shipbuilding decline took the duo away from their beloved Clydebank to Fife, where George took up work in electronics.

But Clydebank was never far from their hearts.

George said: "We are both pretty much involved in village life in Kinghorn and support many local organisations.

"I am a Past President of the Rotary Club and Past Captain of the Golf Club while Ena is a Church Elder and Clerk to the board of Kinghorn Parish Church.

"It’s fair to say that Clydebank has made a positive impact in Fife over the years.

"But despite all our time in Fife we still consider ourselves Bankies first and foremost."
