POLICE are appealing for information into the attempted murder in Knightswood of two officers.

A car was deliberately driven at the officers on Sunday night while they were assisting with an enquiry and both officers remain at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital following the attack, one of them in intensive care.

Around 11.15pm, two officers were responding to a call in Banner Drive.

While carrying out their enquiries, they stopped a car to speak to the occupants when the car reversed and struck both officers, leaving them seriously injured.

Emergency services responded to the incident and both officers were taken to hospital.

The female officer, aged 30, suffered serious injuries and is currently in ICU, confirmed Police Scotland. The other officer, aged 31 was also seriously injured. He also remains in hospital.

A vehicle matching the description of the one driven at officers was later found damaged by fire in Scotstoun.

Extensive enquiries are underway with detectives going door to door and checking CCTV footage for additional detail. Officers said they are treating the incident as attempted murder.

Detective Inspector Ian Hylands said: “Our enquiries so far have revealed that a blue Nissan Qashqai was seen at the location around the time of the incident.

"A vehicle matching that description has been found badly damaged by fire in Lennox Gardens, Scotstoun.

"However we have yet to confirm if that is the same vehicle. Despite the damage, forensic officers will carry out a comprehensive examination of the car.

"Everything that can be done to locate the suspects is being done but I would like to appeal to anyone who may have seen the incident last night or who has any knowledge of the vehicle or the suspects to contact us.

"Two police officers, in responding to an incident to help protect the public, have been badly injured. Help us find those responsible.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Drumchapel police office on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
