A SHOPWORKERS trade union has called for former BHS boss Sir Phillip Green not to remember his promise to “sort” the staff’s pension scheme.

Usdaw has called on Sir Phillip Green not to lose sight of his promise to ‘sort’ the scheme as he prepares to challenge a committee report on the demise of the former retail giant, which closed in July leaving 50 Clydebank workers unemployed.

David Gill, Usdaw national officer, said: “Sir Philip Green still needs to honour his promise to ‘sort’ the pension scheme, which we had hoped would take weeks rather than months and BHS pensioners now fear it might be years.

“He has claimed to ‘have been working on this issue on a daily basis’, but we have seen precious little progress so far.

“Our members in BHS were left devastated and jobless by the closure of a company that had been trading on high streets for over 80 years.

“11,000 hard-working and loyal staff totally let down by the actions of a handful of people at the top who seemed more interested in indulging in a game of corporate monopoly for their own personal gain, rather than running a profitable retail business.

“Those jobs have gone, but the current and future BHS pensioners need their futures secured and Sir Phillip has a crucial role to play.”
