A LOCAL approach to supporting people with chronic pain has won a prestigious national award.

West Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership’s Prescribing Support Team have been recognised as the Self Management Supporting Health and Social Care Partnership of the Year at the 2016 Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland Awards.

The team – including pharmacists, physiotherapists, GPs, pain consultants, a psychologist, health improvement staff and patient representatives – have led an integrated approach to help people self-manage chronic pain and improve quality of life.

The project was recognised as having delivered improved access to information and education on self-management of chronic pain for patients.

Keith Redpath, chief officer for the West Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) said: “I am delighted that the team have been recognised for the hard work they have put working together and delivering a comprehensive chronic pain management service for the residents of West Dunbartonshire.”

Councillor Gail Casey, chair of West Dunbartonshire Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “It is wonderful to see our service being recognised at a national level and I would like to congratulate the team on their awards success and for the fantastic service they provide to our residents.

“We have many staff members within the partnership who are committed to providing services that help support residents and it’s right the staff who deliver these services are publicly thanked for the great work they do.”
