THE future of one of Drumchapel's biggest businesses is secure as bosses commit to Glasgow.

Edrington are moving their head office functions to a massive Queen Street redevelopment in the city centre but keeping their sprawling site in the north-west to continue on from 50 years of success.

Fifty years ago, the Clyde Bonding Company (a subsidiary of Edrington) had outgrown its Speirs Wharf site and opened a state-of-the-art facility in Drumchapel.

Original designed to blend and bottle Cutty Sark whiskies with eight production lines, it now has 10 lines, including Scotland’s fastest bottling line, delivering Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark at up to 600 bottles per minute.

Local MSP Bill Kidd said: "The importance of Edrington's being based here in Drumchapel is that it's a well known company across the world which produces the very best quality whisky and brings credit to our part of Scotland.

"Edrington's is also well quoted as an employer with a terrific workforce from the local area and who have a good industrial relations record, which is something to be very proud of.

"I wish Edrington's well with their new city centre HQ, but I'm very happy that the main base will remain in Drumchapel for years to come."

The firm will take over the two four floors of the refurbished 100 Queen Street, across from the Gallery of Modern Art, in spring 2017 as they move head-office functions from Perth and their Great Western Road site.

Ian Curle, Edrington’s chief executive said: “100 Queen Street is the perfect location for Edrington’s international business and our leading brands. We looked at a number of properties in Glasgow for this strategically important move, and Queen Street combines high quality accommodation with a compelling location at the heart of Glasgow’s professional and cultural centre.

“Bringing together our leadership and business units in a central Glasgow location will help ensure that the business is in the best possible shape to deliver long term growth. It will improve international connections and bring us close to the creative and digital skills necessary to grow our business.”

Hunter Esson, chief executive of Esson Properties, added: “We’re thrilled to have attracted such a high profile international company as Edrington. Queen Street has become one of the most desirable locations for commercial accommodation, with significant improvements taking place over the last couple of years and a host of local amenities right on its doorstep.”
