POLICE are hunting for a dangerous dog which bit the hand of a 14-year-old sending him to hospital for days.

The incident happened around 8.30pm on August 12 outside the Tesco in Hardgate after a 19-year-old left his dog tied up outside the shop.

When the 14-year-old boy approached, thinking the dog was friendly, the brown bullmastiff bit the boy’s hand.

The youth tried to free himself but the dog latched on again.

Eventually the boy freed himself as the dog began barking aggressively.

The owner of the bullmastiff, when he came out of the store and asked if the dog bit him, ran off with the animal.

The boy was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with four or five puncture wounds to his hand and was given strong antibiotics.

He received surgery to clean the wounds and was released on August 14.

CCTV is being reviewed and the suspect is described as 5’10” tall, slim, with dark brown hair.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact police by phoning the non-emergency number 101.
