A FORMER day care centre in Jordanhill is to be taken on by council bosses and developed to boost nursery provision in the area.
The space at Southbrae is currently lying empty but Bailie Liz Cameron pushed for Glasgow City Council to take on responsibility as demand in her Garscadden/Scotstounhill ward has increased.
She told the Post: “I have been concerned about the situation because there are large swathes where we would warrant more services.
“On my request, the education department has taken on the former day care centre at Southbrae. This is really prime land and the council could have developed it but we are so interested in early years education and I will be looking at what we can do with this building.”
Bailie Cameron said options included a nursery, afterschool care, holiday care or other ideas, and the council will work with social enterprises for potential uses of the site in Southbrae Drive.
She added: “I think people were worried it would be mothballed. I hope people in the area will be able to discuss the possibilities. It could be a really good facility.”
