MEN from around the country descended on Yoker to take on one of the most famous football rivalries in history all for charity.

Strategic operations firm, Actavo, brought its workers from across England and Scotland to battle it out in a head to head charity match in Holm Park, the grounds of Yoker Athletic, on Saturday, July 30.

Staff from north and south of the border also put on a gala day, featuring a bouncy castle, a DJ and funfair games, and fundraising evening at the West Park Hotel, raising a total of £2830 for their charity of choice - St Margaret of Scotland Hospice in Whitecrook.

Victory was on the side of the England team, made up staff from Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool, Barnsley and Birmingham, beating out the Scotland team, made up of staff from Glasgow and the west of Scotland, 6 to 4 and taking home the first Battle of Britain trophy.

Organiser of the event, Jay Malarkey, national installation manager for Actavo, said the game was "entertaining and competitive" and deemed the day "a success" with plans already underway promising to make the event even bigger and even better for 2017.
