HE is Clydebank's most successful swimmer you've never heard of. And he's so famous, he's recognised instantly around the Olympic Park in Rio.
Except Kyle Chalmers isn't a swimmer and he's famous because he's been mistaken as one in Australia.
The 19-year-old Drumry boy is in Brazil thanks to a work opportunity and woke up from a nap to 20,000 congratulatory tweets celebrating the gold medal performance of Kyle Chalmers, 18, from Ashford, South Australia.
Aussie Kyle won the gold in the 100m freestyle on August 11 and that's when Bankie Kyle's phone exploded.
The former St Peter the Apostle Secondary pupil told the Post: "I was actually sleeping at the time and woke up with over 20,000 notifications on Twitter of people congratulating me on my win. Members of parliament and also Woolworths have congratulated me.
"It's been good fun so far, I met some Australians last night and they all recognised me as I'm all over the news in there hometown.
"I've not been to much of the sports yet due to working but hopefully this week I'll be able to go and visit more sites and watch more sports."
Kyle has toyed with the new fame, changing his Twitter bio to "Apparent Australian gold medalist swimmer" and Tweeting: "So apparently I've just won a gold medal!!! Get in there! Great way to wake up! #wrongkyle #IDontSwimImTooFat".
But Kyle is no stranger to sport, having previously played for Queen's Park and Scotland at various age groups. He's currently injured but being surrounded by the peak athleticism of the Rio Olympics is driving him to get back to the pitch when he returns home in a few weeks.
"It's a good atmosphere here," he said. "All the bars and restaurants are busy all night and people are buzzing around the town. I'm not one to get carried away with myself so being on the big stage at this age isn't fazing me too much.
"I'm hopefully going to get back into football and get back to the level I was at, playing professionally.
"It's made me realise it's the level I want to be at and push myself to become better."
Kyle is working as a trainee radio engineer involved in the installation and set up of communications system throughout Brazil for the games and got the opportunity to be in Rio through his job with Vital Comms Scotland.
Amongst those congratulating Bankie Kyle thinking he was Aussie year 12 pupil Kyle were South Australia opposition leader Steven Marshall while media in Australia have taken an interest in the case of mistaken identity.
And this week Kyle bumped into winning TeamGB athletes Louis Smith and Greg Rutherford in Rio. When they learned his name, they already knew the story.
Kyle added: "It’s not the first time I have been bombarded with tweets, so it only took me a matter of minutes to realise what had happened.
“I received them when my namesake qualified for the Olympics - but not as many as I have now.”
Last year, when Aussie Kyle was signed by Adidas, Kyle tweeted: "Delighted to have signed with Adidas, honestly a dream come true @adidas_swim".
Have the two Kyles met? Not yet, but the Bankie lad he's "definitely up for going out one night with him".
If only he could find his Twitter address. . .
