HELP is available for parents feeling the pinch when it comes to their child’s uniform for the new school year.
West Dunbartonshire Council offers a clothing grant of £100 per child, while Glasgow City Council offers £47 per child, to eligible parents.
In order to qualify for the West Dunbartonshire grant a parent must receive either income support, universal credit, pension credit or working tax credit with income less than £7,420 or a gross annual income of £15,860.
Those who receive income-based jobseekers allowance and income-related employment and support allowance are also eligible, however, it will be assessed based on the recipient’s income.
Recipients of housing or council tax benefit, as well as those who receive support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act of 1999 can also receive the grant.
For Glasgow, a similar criteria applies, however those who solely receive income-related employment and support allowance are not eligible.
Ahead of the new school year, students of school leaving age – which is 16-years-old – are not eligible for the grant in either council.
Bailie Liz Cameron, executive member for children, young people and lifelong learning said: “It is really important that families who are eligible, make sure they are claiming for school clothing and free meal grants for their children.”
