A TEENAGER who kicked a police officer on the head has been spared prison.

Connor McGinty had previously pleaded guilty to the attack on December 6, 2015, while he was on bail for another incident.

The 18-year-old, who is son of West Dunbartonshire Council’s education convener Michelle McGinty, lashed out against the officer in Redburn, Alexandria.

He is currently subject to a community payback order of 300 hours of unpaid work and £750 in compensation for assaulting a man over a tenner in April 2015. Last week at Dumbarton Sheriff Court, Sheriff William Gallacher ordered McGinty to be of good behaviour for three months while the CPO is starting out.

He told him: “This is not a trivial matter. I will defer sentence for you to be of good behaviour and comply with the existing order and get on with what’s required of you.

“The matter is very much in your own control.”

Last month we reported Cllr McGinty raised the subject of delays to CPOs starting at a full council meeting.

Her son’s CPO had itself been delayed by nearly two months.
