DALMUIR Park has been awarded a Green Flag to recognise its top quality.
Environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful announced a record breaking number of parks in Scotland were given the status, with Dalmuir joined by New Dumbarton Cemetery as the two for West Dunbartonshire.
Volunteer judges assess the parks based on how welcoming it is, safety, maintenance and how secure it is.
Councillor Patrick McGlinchey, convener for infrastructure, regeneration and economic development, said: “We are blessed with countless wonderful parks and open spaces across West Dunbartonshire and I am delighted that Dalmuir Park has been awarded this prestigious honour.
"It’s also extremely pleasing to secure a Green Flag Award for the New Dumbarton Cemetery – the first in Scotland to do so. Our cemeteries offer a place of comfort and solace to bereaved families, so it is fantastic that the New Dumbarton Cemetery has been recognised in this way.”
Dr Lindsay Montgomery, chairman of Keep Scotland Beautiful, said: “Good quality green space is vital to the health and wellbeing of local communities, families and individuals – that is why it is fantastic to see Scotland’s parks and green spaces going from strength to strength.
“It is great to see such a concerted effort across Scotland to improve our open spaces. We are proud of all our award winners, who work year round, to make Scotland’s parks and public spaces beautiful.”
