FOOD firm Mattessons has recalled one of their products because its possibly contaminated with plastic.

The company announced all "Roast Chicken Flavour Fridge Raider" products were being recalled on a precautionary basis as "they may contain small pieces of plastic".

A statement read: "This is an isolated incident. No other Mattessons' varieties, pack formats or best before dates are affected."

The products are all have use-by dates of July 24 to August 5, July 4 to August 4, or July 5 to July 26.

A spokesperson for Mattessons said: "We received a small number of complaints regarding plastic found in some of our Fridge Raider Roast Chicken flavour products.

"Having investigated this issue thoroughly, we have taken the decision to recall a specific batch of this product as a precautionary measure, and we will be providing full refunds to any consumers impacted. We are asking all customers who have bought these products not to consume them.

"Customer safety is our number one priority and we take great pride in the quality of our products. We sincerely regret any inconvenience caused."

The firm said anyone affected could contact Mattessons for a full refund via 0800 783 4321.
