COMEDIAN Frankie Boyle has a made a donation to aid the creation of a prospective charity in memory Clydebank teenager Paige Doherty.

The funnyman donated protective equipment to Paige's Promise, a cause which aims to provide self-defence classes for youngsters in Clydebank before rolling out to Glasgow and surrounding areas.

The 15-year-old's heartbroken mum, Pamela Munro, took to Facebook to reveal the celebrity donation and thank Boyle for his 'generosity'.

She said: "She said: "Would just like to say a massive thank you to comedian Frankie Boyle who has donated protective equipment for the self defence classes to get up and running.

"Can't thank him enough for his generosity."

Pamela recently spoke for the first time since the tragedy during a radio interview with Loose Women star Kaye Adams for BBC Scotland.

The 32-year-old said she hoped to set up a charity to keep her daughter's memory alive.

She said: "(The charity) is keeping Paige's memory alive. She was always helping other people.

"Everybody always commented on how helpful a wee girl she was.

"She would always want to give back and her being taken from us has made us want to do that."

She added: "Not everybody can afford to send their kids to defence classes or martial arts classes because it is expensive. This way it is paid for by Paige's Promise.

"They don't know need to worry about those costs and they know that their child will have that basic knowledge to defend themselves if something was to happen to them.

"I am not going to say it will save everybody but hopefully if it saves somebody it's a bonus."

The prospective charity, which the family have been fundraising for, also aims to help families in the aftermath of a tragedy.

Paige attended a sleepover at a friend's house and was on her way to collect her wages from her part-time job as a hairdresser when she vanished on March 19 - her body was found 48 hours later.

A 31-year-old man has been charged in connection with her death.

He has made no plea or declaration after two private court appearances and has been remanded in custody.
