CLYDEBANK and Milngavie MSP Gil Paterson has refused fellow MSP Jackie Baillie’s request for cross-party support due to an alleged “reel of abuse against the SNP” on her Twitter page.
The Labour MSP for Dumbarton reached out to Mr Paterson to back her motion opposing a transfer of Vale of Leven birthing services as she needed the support of a number of other MSPs from different parties to secure one of a limited number of debate slots at Holyrood.
In response to Ms Baillie’s request Mr Paterson said: “I am aware of the issue but not of the specifics, and as I am currently out of the country I cannot back her parliamentary motion. However, I will weigh the merits of it upon my return later this month when I can view the details and make an informed decision.
“This is a decision to be made by the NHSGGC health board, and as Scottish Labour has numerous councillors on the board, the Dumbarton MSP should perhaps look to them for answers.
“If Jackie Baillie truly wants cross-party co-operation, she could maybe start by vetting her own Twitter feed, which is a reel of abuse against the SNP.”
