THE rainbow flag is flying at half mast in Clydebank this week in solidarity with the LGBT community mourning the massacre in Orlando, Florida.

The flag is on display at Clydebank Town Hall and West Dunbartonshire Council's Garshake headquarters in Dumbarton through until Monday.

A total of 49 people lost their lives when a gunman opened fire at the gay nightclub Pulse in the US city in the early hours of June 12.

There have since been vigils across Scotland and around the world and MSPs held a moment silence at the Scottish Parliament on Tuesday.

Provost Douglas McAllister said: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their friends and families at this incredibly difficult time.

“The rainbow flag is being flown at half-mast at Council buildings as a mark of respect for those who lost their lives or were injured and as a symbol of solidarity with the LGBT community who have been profoundly affected by this terrible tragedy.”
