POLICE have arrested a 15-year-old in Glasgow over alleged hoax threats at schools in Clydebank and Lanarkshire.

St Peter the Apostle High was evacuated yesterday after a similar incident at Clydebank High on Tuesday.

Emergency services searched both schools and all pupils and staff were safe and later returned to class.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed: “A 15 year old boy from the Glasgow area was arrested on Wednesday, June 15, in connection with a number of the alleged incidents in Clydebank and Lanarkshire. A report will be submitted the Procurator Fiscal.

"Police Scotland takes hoax calls extremely seriously. They divert police resources, cause disruption and alarm to the public."

A West Dunbartonshire Council spokeswoman said the authority always takes the top precautions for any school incident.

She said: "All of our schools have well established and rehearsed evacuation plans which are put into action during incidents such as these.

"Our first priority is always the safety and wellbeing of our children and we responded to each of these incidents in partnership with Police and the Fire Service and evacuated the school as a precautionary measure."
