THE hunt is on for the person responsible for hoax threats to schools include Clydebank High and others across the west of Scotland.

The school was evacuated as a precaution around 9.30am on Tuesday morning as parents were sent a text message alert about an "incident".

There were no injuries and all pupils were safe, being led back to class within the hour.

Police are working to trace the culprit who also put in similar calls to Bellshill Academy, Carluke High and Calderside Academy, all in Lanarkshire.

A West Dunbartonshire Council spokesman told the Post: “Police services attended Clydebank High earlier today in response to a malicious call.

"Pupils were moved from the building to ensure their safety and following confirmation that the school was safe our young people were settled back into their classes.”

One pupil told the Post: "All that happened was a tannoy announcement this morning announcing a 'code 1' alert which sent the teachers into a slightly panicked state and we were quickly evacuated to the school pitches."

The scene outside the school was calm amongst pupils as checks were carried out inside.

But parents condemned the hoax and one relative added: "It's very upsetting for everyone."

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "Police were called to an incident believed to be a malicious call at a school in West Dunbartonshire at 9.30am.

"A search was carried out in conjunction with the local authority and pupils have returned to class.

"Enquiries are continuing to tract who is responsible."

Officers asked anyone with information is asked to contact police on the non-emergency 101 number or Crimestoppers.
