WHITECROOK is set to host an event in solidarity with refugees as part of a two-week festival next month.

The two-week festival coordinated by Scottish Refugee Council (SRC) celebrates the contribution refugees make the country’s culture through food, sport, language and the arts.

Isaro Social Integration Network is set to present ‘Dine and View’ in Centre 81, Whitecrook on June 1 from 11am to 2pm.

Maggie Richie, spokeswoman for SRC, said: “Let’s increase solidarity with refugees in Clydebank: learn more about the issues that make people flee their countries and how they settle in countries that offer them a shelter.”

Isaro Social Integration Network is a charity in Clydebank, based at Centre81. It was inspired by the need for relevant social, cultural and economic integration for the fast growing ethnic minority communities in Scotland.

The organisation has a vision for a safe and multi-culturally enriched community, and aims to promote social and cultural integration and mutual understanding between diverse communities within Scotland.

Scottish Refugee Council is the leading refugee charity dedicated to providing advice and advocacy. It campaigns for the fair and humane treatment of people seeking protection and raise awareness of refugee issues.

The theme for Refugee Festival Scotland 2016 is solidarity.

This year’s programme is packed with more than 100 events from music concerts, theatre and dance performances, to family days and football tournaments, so there is something for everyone – right across Scotland.

Scottish Refugee Council’s Arts & Cultural Development Officer, Suzi Maciver, said: “Scotland has responded compassionately to the refugee crisis and many Scots have opened their hearts to those in need.

“Refugee Festival Scotland is about recognising this difficult present – but it’s also about being inspired by the people who are becoming part of our country’s rich tapestry, as we move into the future together.

“Now, more than ever, we need to stand in solidarity, visibly and proudly, with the people who’ve had to flee everything precious to them to survive.

“Join us and show your solidarity with refugees this June. Let’s stand together, welcome new friends and celebrate Scotland as our home – a place that we can all belong to.”
