A MAN who slashed a neighbour in a row over a missing mobile phone after an all-day drinking session in Clydebank has been jailed.

Kevin McNulty, listed in court papers as a prisoner at Low Moss, admitted the offence at a previous court date.

The victim who was slashed needed butterfly stitches to close the wound on her face, but it was described as a “superficial” injury.

McNulty appeared in Dumbarton Sheriff Court on Wednesday to be sentenced for the attack, which happened on January 4 this year in Newshot Court.

The court was told McNulty had an electronic tag at the time of the offence and had to be in his own flat between the hours of 7pm and 7am.

He had been drinking at a neighbour’s flat but went home before his curfew and continued drinking there.

His defence agent told the court McNulty had realised his phone was missing and went back downstairs – breaching his restriction order – to confront the people downstairs.

He said: “He understands a custodial sentence will be imposed upon him.

“Effectively a brawl developed in the house because of a phone. There were three other individuals involved.”

The court was told McNulty had not escaped from the brawl without injury himself, as one of the people in the downstairs flat had followed him home after the incident and “attacked” McNulty. He was “slashed across his face”, and when the police arrived there were “various injuries” to him.

Sheriff Simon Pender, sentencing, said: “I will take account of the fact you pleaded guilty and that was to a reduced charge.

“Nonetheless this is a serious matter.

“You confronted the complainer and others with a knife.”

McNulty was sentenced to 18 months in jail for the offence, and will be supervised for nine months when he is released.
